Frequently asked.

A few of the questions we hear most often from families considering estate planning for the first time.

Oregon imposes its own estate tax on estates exceeding $1 million in total value at death , one of the lowest thresholds in the country. The tax applies on a graduated scale from 10% to 16% on the amount over the threshold.

The taxable estate includes far more than bank accounts: home equity, life insurance proceeds, retirement accounts, and certain lifetime gifts all count toward the threshold. For most Oregon families with significant home equity, this is reachable territory , and worth planning for.

A Revocable Living Trust does three things a Will alone cannot: it avoids probate, keeps your affairs private, and lets a trustee step in seamlessly if you become incapacitated. For most Oregon families with a home or meaningful assets, it’s the centerpiece of the plan.

Not every family needs a Trust. We’ll talk through your situation, your assets, and your goals, and recommend the simplest plan that does what you actually need.

A space to sit with what matters most. You’ll be heard in plain English, walked through the Oregon options that fit your family, and leave with a clear sense of the path forward.

The fee is $250, a flat fee for a two-hour consultation with Sarah. There’s no obligation to proceed, only the clarity of having had the conversation.

Yes. Estate plans are quoted as flat fees, agreed in writing before any work begins. You’ll know exactly what your plan costs , no hourly billing, no surprise invoices.

The fee depends on the complexity of your situation and the documents you need. We’ll discuss it openly at the consultation.
